Meningitis
Meningitis is also called brain fever. It is usually caused by infection with viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and certain organisms. Physical defects or a weakened immune system may be linked to recurrent bacterial meningitis. This is a type of infection that causes swelling in the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord. In most cases the cause is a virus. However, some non-infectious causes of meningitis also exist.
